MATH

The second Mediterranean Youth Mathematical Competition took place in Trieste, Italy, on July 7 - 10, 2015. Fourteen countries were represented by teams of 4 highschoolers (2 young women and two young men) and 1 chaperon. The event included the team math competition, survey lectures by Prof. Emilia Mezzetti (INdAM and University of Trieste) and Dr. Maxim Smirnov (ICTP). A tour of the city and a banquet concluded the scheduled activities.

The competition entails three rounds. In the first round, the teams work on the problems in Set 1 within a time limit. Rounds two and three (Set 2 and Set 3) confronts pairs of teams.Italy earned first place and there was a tie between Croatia and France for the second place. After the tie-breaker (Set 4), the final awards were: Gold medal for Italy, Silver medal for Croatia and Bronze medal to the other teams.
